About our Management Training practice

Founded on the belief that every organisation deserves exceptional leaders, Value Focus Management has spent nearly a decade helping businesses across the United Kingdom and Ireland develop the management capability they need to succeed.

Our story

Value Focus Management was established in 2016 by a group of senior practitioners who shared a frustration: too much management training was theoretical, generic and disconnected from the real pressures leaders face every day. They set out to build a consultancy that would be different — one that combined rigorous academic foundations with deep operational experience and a genuine commitment to measurable outcomes.

From a small office in Northern Ireland, the practice has grown to serve organisations across 42 industry sectors, from healthcare trusts and local councils to technology firms and manufacturing companies. Our management training programmes have been delivered in boardrooms, factory floors, community centres and virtual classrooms, always adapted to the context in which participants actually lead.

What has remained constant throughout our growth is our founding philosophy: management training must create value that participants and their organisations can see, feel and measure. Every programme we design starts with a clear understanding of the business challenge it needs to address and ends with an evaluation of the impact it has delivered. This relentless focus on value is why clients return to us year after year and why over 80 per cent of our new business comes through referrals.

Our mission and values

Our mission is simple: to develop confident, capable and compassionate managers who create thriving workplaces. Everything we do is guided by five core values that shape how we design, deliver and evaluate our management training.

Impact over activity

We measure success not by the number of training days delivered but by the behavioural change and business results our management training produces. Every programme includes clear success criteria agreed upfront with the client.

Practitioner-led

Our facilitators have held senior management and executive roles in real organisations. They bring credibility, empathy and practical wisdom that participants respect and respond to.

Participant-centred

We design every management training experience around the learner. Pre-programme diagnostics, personalised action plans and post-programme coaching ensure that each participant gets the support they need to grow.

Evidence-based

Our management training content draws on peer-reviewed research in organisational psychology, behavioural science and leadership theory. We stay current through ongoing partnerships with academic institutions.

Integrity always

We are honest about what management training can and cannot achieve. We will never oversell, and we will always recommend the approach that serves the client best — even if that means a smaller engagement for us.

Our journey so far

Key milestones in the growth of our management training practice.

2016 — Foundation

Value Focus Management is established in Howell-under-Kemmer, Northern Ireland, with a clear mission: to deliver management training that creates measurable value. Our first client is a regional healthcare trust seeking to develop its newly appointed ward managers.

2017 — First major contract

We secure a twelve-month management training partnership with a national logistics company, delivering leadership essentials to 60 front-line managers across six UK depots. Post-programme evaluation shows a 22 per cent improvement in employee engagement scores.

2019 — Expanding the team

Growing demand leads us to bring on board two additional senior facilitators and a dedicated programme designer. We also launch our change management mastery module in response to client requests for support during digital transformation initiatives.

2020 — Pivoting to virtual delivery

When the pandemic disrupts in-person training, we rapidly develop a virtual management training platform that preserves interactivity, group exercises and coaching. Client feedback confirms that virtual sessions are equally effective, and we continue to offer blended options today.

2022 — 1,000 managers trained

We reach the milestone of 1,000 managers trained since inception. An independent impact study commissioned by three long-standing clients finds that 78 per cent of participants report sustained performance improvements 90 days after completing our management training.

2024 — Recognised excellence

Value Focus Management is shortlisted for the Northern Ireland Business Awards in the Professional Services category. We also launch our remote and hybrid leadership programme, addressing the evolving needs of distributed workforces.

Our management training programmes are underpinned by recognised standards and professional affiliations.

Professional memberships

Our facilitators hold memberships with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). This commitment to lifelong learning means our management training always reflects the latest thinking in leadership development.
